Teaches us how to slow down the thought waves of the mind
Classical Yoga
Definition
Yoga originated in India several thousand years ago a scholar named Patanjali in the second century B.C. was the first person (or possibly a group of people) to write down its principles.
Yoga in Sanskrit translates to yukti, and means "union" or "yoke."
Yoga incorporates breathing practices(pranayama), physical postures (asanas), and still mind meditation (dhyana).
These are actually only three limbs of the Eight limbs that Patanjali describes the other five limbs are (listed in no particular order) External attitudes for guiding conduct in society(Yamas), Internal attitudes for personal discipline (Niyama), Concentration and contemplation (Dharana), mindful
sense experience (Pratyahara) and Absorption in the Self (Samahdi).
What to expect:
The class starts by lying down in savasana (corpes pose), then the joints and muscles are warmed up and we proceed to the physical postures (Asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and finish off with a short meditation.
Tibetan Heart Yoga (THY)
Definition
Tibetan Heart Yoga combines the physical postures of yoga asana with the specific Buddhist breathing practices and heart/mind practices intended to open us up to the experience of the clear light of loving kindness. Infusing the physical asana (postures) of yoga with the Buddhist traditions of compassion and dedication to serving others this will help bring joy and equanimity to your life.
What to expect:
The class commences with a short visualisation and breathing techniques during this class you offer your practice to someone who is suffering, this suffering can be physical, emotional, financial or spiritual during the visualisation we imagine that we are taking their suffering away and destroying it forever.
As we move through the physical postures we then send our friend the 6 perfect gifts, and they are the gift of giving, kindness, patience, joy, stillness and wisdom.
In this class we are not only giving ourselves a beautiful gift by practicing yoga but we also send amazing bleesings out to some one we love.
Personal Yoga Training
Personal Yoga training is best suited to those who would like to have their Yoga practice specifically designed for them, to assist with an injury, poor health or to improve flexibility and strength and fitness over a period of time.
What to expect:
An initial assesment will be conducted in the first session, assessing postural alignment and through muscle testing ascertaining which postures will benifit you the most i.e. which muscles or groups of muscle require strengthening and which require lengthening or stretching. This assessment will take approximately 20 minutes per person. Each session from then will be specifically designed for your individual requirements.
All the different aspects of Yoga will be incorporated into the session including breathing techniques, meditation, focused concentration, and techniques to help you move through life more easily.
